2 years have passed and there’s not a day I don’t think of you, Mary. I reach to call you, still think of what you would say or advise. Life isn’t the same without my confidant and guidepost, without your quick wit and laughter too. I came across something this past week that Maya Angelou wrote; basically that in tough moments, “bring your people with you”. I’m going to keep this in mind going forward. I’ll bring you with me, in the good moments too. Ps -Found a gem of a photo from August 1992; I’ll try to post it. I had come up to visit you for your birthday. Look at you, radiant inside and out! Connie joined us in celebration; no doubt she brought the “cherry-berry” to toast the day! Love you always. Xo

We loved seeing Mary at Tappo Restaurant singing on the rooftop on those beautiful balmy Monday nights with the band she loved.  She was amazing and would always sit and chat when she had a break.  We will miss you Mary.  Your loving fans and friends,

Mary Beiring McMahon
Mary has been part of our lives for about sixty years. In our youth, we went to high school and college with her, shared an apartment with her, hitch hiked to Martha’s Vineyard with her, and went to clubs and parties with her. As young adults, we moved to the countryside and shared the joys of driving back and forth between Angola and the Boston hills in winter. After moving to California, we maintained contact with Mary and she was always part of any return visits. She was our sister. After her mother passed on, she adopted one of our mothers (Edna Linehan) and they became close friends and filled voids in each other’s lives. 
Mary was a rare, truly beautiful person in all regards. She loved her family, her friends and her students. She embraced the beauty of music both as a musician and singer and enjoyed being able sharing her talents. Mary collected people and drew them together continually added to her circle of friends. 
We could write volumes about our lives together but everyone reading this knows how Mary improved the quality their own lives. Mary will always be part of all of us who were fortunate enough to know her. Thank you, Mary!

Mary was sweet, gentle & kind. She was also a dynamo who nurtured countless children & entertained many with her passionate vocals. The world is a better place because of her generous spirit. My sincere sympathy & much love to her family & friends.

I fell in love with Mary the moment I met her. She was such a bright light. I don't understand why things happen the way they do, but I know the world is a lesser place without Mary in it. My deepest condolences go out to Paul, Mary's family and all her friends. She will be sorely missed.

Mary and I shared a friendship for over 50 years. How to choose the moments here?  I selected one video from a jazz festival a few yrs back where Mary performed. Her voice was mystical: she used to say, "people are amazed to hear such a deep voice from such a little person!"  I selected other photos from our trip to  Italy/Switzerland in 2011, when we celebrated our retirement. It was Mary's first trip abroad. We landed in Milan and stayed with family in Lugano, and then off to my mom's hometown in northern Italy, where Mary fit right in with the ladies of the village. They loved her (of course!) We travelled on to Florence, attended an opera, and sat for a private concert by the Mayor's grandson, in the mayor's private castle: Mary called it "one of the best musical moments" of her life. Later, we visited Lucca, where we laughed through making pasta, and Mary sang in a restaurant w/ local musicians, who she introduced herself to only moments before in English; (they spoke only Italian), giving an impromptu and heartfelt rendition of, "The Very Thought of You" to fellow travelers. Because that's who she was. - - - My deepest condolences go out to her beloved children Katie and Kevin, to her five dear grandchildren, to her caring partner Paul, and to all her family and friends.  Mary - we had so many good times, amazing moments, and we made fabulous memories.  I will miss you beyond measure.  XXO

Dear Kevin and Katie , I'm so saddened to hear of your Mom's passing. And so saddened for you both and your families. She was a good friend and such a sweet, kind woman.  My sincere condolences.
