I am so glad that I had my grandmother in my life for so long. Grandma was always there supporting me throughout my life. She was all about her family, and always enjoyed to hear about how we were doing and to spend time with us. I'm so glad that my own children were able to get to know her. She loved to see all of her great-grandchildren. It was great that she was able to stay so independent for so long. I know it was important to her to be able to do those things to keep herself healthy. She was a wonderful person who inspired us all. She will be missed and remembered forever.

I’m glad we were lucky enough to have  had Grandma in our lives for so many years, and glad she got to spend some happy times with our son as well. They had a nice chat on the phone a week or two ago which is even more special now. I’ll always remember family dinners at her dining room table, and bike rides down the street as a kid to share a Sprite in her kitchen. As an adult, she helped me realize the importance of letting family know you care, a lesson Grandma taught by example, never leaving without letting you know she loved you. Love you, Grandma.

Mary McCarthy-Hale is my mother-in-law, and always will be.  One cannot exaggerate the depth of her kindness, thoughtfulness and commitment to others.  All the good things everyone has said about her are true.

In recent years she lived independently and took pride in being able to climb the stairs in her two story home, including trips to the basement to do laundry.  She did not complain and always approached challenges in a level-headed manner.

My connection to Mary began with my courtship and marriage to her daughter, Linda.  Those who knew them both understood the bond between them and how lucky I was to be part of their family.  As coincidence would have it, Mary died on the same month and day as my own mother many years ago.

I remarried after Linda's death and will forever be grateful to Mary for her acceptance and support.

Sandy and I often took Mary to celebrations of events in my grandchildren's lives.  We visited her monthly for lunch at a restaurant or her home.  Usually, Mary would prepare desert and we would bring the meal.  After lunch, we would move to the living room for a second cup of coffee and conversation.

Mary will be missed.  We will, however, continue to celebrate a life well lived and feel blessed that she was such an important part of our lives.  We are all better people for having known and loved Mary and in return, been loved by her.

Linda's birthday is May 7th and Mother's Day this year is May 10th. Mother's Day will provide all of us with the opportunity to recall special times with special people.  There will be both sadness and smiles that day, but mostly smiles.  This is their time to be together again.

Just a great Mother.  And well liked by all that she came in contact with. She was always there for me when growing up and also there for Lynne and I when needed.  But, in the past few years, it was my turn to be there for her, until her time came to leave us.  She will be  deeply missed, fondly remembered and is now at peace.
