I met Mr. Greco at my grade school the year I was graduating 8th grade (1998). He said to put Hutch Tech down as a first choice if we really wished to attend the school. He was my principal my entire high school years. My older brother also had him as a social studies teacher at the former Traditional School (now Performing Arts). He loved his Yankees and when they would lose, we knew to stay out the way the next time we saw him in school lol. I was unable to attend his services and I am sure it was huge. He was loved by many. My sincerest condolences to his family.

My dad’s childhood friend, Joe Grifasi. You might know him from Naked Gun and other bit parts in other movies. He is also Judge Horowitz on Law and Order.

Today the family and friends of David Greco celebrated his life ! Dangler Funeral parlor did an amazing job ! St. Amelia church service along with full honor guard service was Perfect in every way! So proud to say it was a beautiful day in his honor and memory! God bless the entire Greco family and give them strength! He was and always will be loved and never forgotten! We love you Dave Greco and so thankful God chose all of us to be in your beautiful world! Rest easy! ❤️

I wasn’t fortunate enough to have a real close relationship with Mr. Greco during my years at Hutch Tech (1997-2001), but I will vouch that he ran the school with authority and the students respected him.  Every day he did the morning announcements and usually at the end was “ would the following students please report to my office”. If your name was called, that usually meant Mr. Greco was punching your ticket for detention lol. I remember fondly how he called us all “youngsters” even though we were knocking on the doorstep to college. My education at Hutch Tech led to many open doors in my life, and for that I’m eternally grateful. Thank you Mr. Greco for being such a good principal. Hutch Tech wouldn’t be as respected as it is without your leadership. My sincere condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.

He said, in a loud, gruff voice (almost yelling)  “What are your intentions?” (Then a much softer tone) “I need to know how long you will be here”…He was a good man, a strong and fair leader. To Jackie & the entire Greco Family...(Camille's Family,  Dave's Family,  Anthony's Family)...Words can not express just how sad we are that Dave is no longer with us.   We are so sorry we could not be there,  but please know we have kept each & everyone of you in our prayers.  Praying God gives you the strength you need during this sad time.   Dave has been an important part of our family since I was little.    He was my brother-in-law.  He was Joe's "Uncle Dave."   We believe Families are forever & always. Mr. Greco was the heart and soul of Hutch Tech High School. This man had such an impact on my life as a former student. He poured the spirit of pride and exceptionalism into each and every one of us. He was a man that inspired students through leading by example and authenticity. Mr. Greco was one of the many giants’ shoulder I stood on so I can become a first generation college student. I never came to school feeling less than, I always felt like I belonged and I deserved the best. He was a principal but in my heart I felt like he was a welcoming father figure. He gave me encouragement to go to college even though I didn’t know anyone that ever went to college. When I was so overwhelmed with school I came back and visited my high school and remembered where I came from and why I have to finish what I started. You were the true embodiment of skill, knowledge and power. I will forever be grateful for how you showed up for your students with respect and tough love. It’s with a heavy heart I am sending prayers and my deepest condolences to the family.

We remembered Mr.Greco from Genessee Humboldt Jr. high school. Mr Greco was an inspiring caring  joyful teacher  from the twins Lynnette Kean and Jeannette Walker

My first teaching job in the city was under Mr. Greco's leadership. How lucky I was. I have so many memories from my years at Hutch Tech, but one that I would like to share is when I was expecting my first child. The staff had a baby shower for me after school when we were supposed to be having a staff meeting. Mr. Greco was in constant communication with security staff over the walkie talkie to ensure that the shower was "moving along" but he was still going to fit in that staff meeting. "Cutting the cake, sir" .... this was Mr. Greco. He meant business, but his heart was larger than life.  

He was beyond respected by students and staff.  
I would literally lie in the middle of the road if he asked me to. That's how much I love this man.

Mr.Greco was the best of the best. What a hilarious, respectable man. 
I'll never forget the announcement of him awkwardly saying on the intercom "you youngsters don't have to hug in the halls after every class, you see each other every period, stop clogging the halls". 
He was dependable, snarky, caring, intelligent, and ran a TIGHT ship.

I’m so sorry for your family’s loss. Mr. Greco was such a wonderful principal, and I always loved our conversations. I remember that we had an electronic  message bar that hung in the cafeteria where they would put important  announcements, events, etc.  For  my 18th birthday, Mr. Greco surprised me by having “Happy 18th Birthday Katie!” scrolling across the screen for everyone to see! It really warmed my heart, especially when I saw his face beaming in the cafeteria once he knew I saw it. He was a special man who cared about his students, and he made a lasting impression on my life.

So sorry for the loss of such a wonderful, genuine, caring man. I was his student at Hutch-Tech and my mom was a coworker throughout the BPS. I remember him having a good heart, wonderful sense of humor, but was still a boss! Sending love and strength to his loved ones. He has touched many, many lives throughout his own and always with a positive impact. He will be dearly missed.

I attended Hutch-Tech from 1994 to 1998. It was gratifying to have such a good principal watching over the students and faculty. May he rest in peace.

I am so sorry to learn of Dave's passing; I had known him since grade school, he at #19, I at #45; frequent team mates on various summer baseball teams through high school and both enjoying administrative careers with the Buffalo schools. He  was an exemplary individual and a gentleman, a mentor and a model, and a most kind and compassionate person. May God bless his souls; my dearest prayers and thoughts.

To the Greco family; my deepest condolences to you guys! Mr.Greco was my principal from 2001-2005 and within the 4yrs of high school at tech, I came out a better person than when I first entered. As a whole, tech was apart of the reason why I am who I am today, but it was under the strict and precise leadership from Mr.Greco which made it all possible! I remember my senior year, I got into some serious trouble and I needed to do community service; walking into his office thinking man am I going to get reamed out for this from him, but I did not! He was concerned, caring, and truly thoughtful (and definitely scared me straight after this) in my whole ordeal. I truly am thankful of how Mr.Greco impacted my life inside of Tech and of course outside of Tech as well and for that I will always be truly grateful to him and of course his family! Fly high Mr.Greco, you will be truly missed!

Dave was our neighbor and we were so blessed to have met him. He was kind, compassionate, and thoughtful and I will be forever grateful for him. I will always remember when we first moved into our new home, Dave asked my father if he could help us out by mowing our lawn. As new homeowners we were in the process of getting a mower as well as countless other things. It seems like a small gesture but I will always remember how he helped us out for the first few months of moving into the neighborhood by mowing our lawn. Dave was an incredible man and me and my husband will miss him dearly.

David Greco was truly one of the great principals the BPS has been fortunate to have over the last quarter century and more. I was called into his office to meet him as I began my first student teaching placement at Hutch Tech in February, 1998.  As Marcie Kukoda and I entered his office, he peered up at me over his iconic spectacles and I knew immediately this was a principal who had a special command and exceptional high standards for his school building.  He was welcoming, supportive, and professional and you could tell he was synonymous with what made Hutch Tech a great school.  It was also apparent he had a zest for  the various avocations of life as his office was adorned with Yankees memorabilia and there was a large computer screen with a video golf game playing.  During my 8 weeks at Hutch Tech, it was comforting and encouraging to hear David Greco on the PA addressing Techtonians to have a Tech kind of day and setting the climate of expectation and trust and high morale that has distinguished Hutch Tech over the years.  I remember him speaking with pride about the annual Dr. MLK Jr. assembly and how important it was for Tech students to come in early and work quietly and safely by their lockers each morning.  To this day, I am especially grateful for the foundation I received and experienced and developed student teaching at Hutch Tech with cooperating master teacher Marcie Kukoda and under Principal David Greco.  He was an outstanding, steadfast leader who inspired so many teachers and students and really an entire community.  May you have rest and peace always Principal Greco and may your family and friends and the Buffalo community be blessed and comforted in knowing how profound and positive your influence has been for so many.  ❤️

There are educators you never forget, and Mr. Greco is indeed one of them! A man you could joke with and get a laugh from, but when he spoke, you for sure listened, and respected every word he said. May he rest in peace and his family find comfort in knowing just how many lives he touched.

Thinking of your family. I first met Mr. Greco when I was ten and he made home visits. I had applied to go to City Honors but he convinced my parents and myself to go to Traditional. Mr. Greco taught me not only information but how to work with people. I am a teacher because of his example!

So deeply sorry to hear about the loss of Mr. Greco.  I coached football at Hutch Tech from 2002-2017.  Mr. Greco was there at the first part of my tenure.  Everyone knew he was the man in charge.  He was respected and loved by many of those around him.  He was part of that old guard that really knew how to run a building.  They don't make them like that anymore.  Condolences to the family.

I met Mr. Greco just once when he was Principal of Buffalo Traditional when I was a young teacher at Follow Through down the street. He impressed me then and the teachers that worked for him adored him. I wanted the family to know that even the adjacent public know of Mr. Greco's contribution to the Buffalo Public Schools. Teachers often think of themselves as educators. But there must be a leader who guides them through the tough but also good times that all teachers experience. At Hutch Tech Dave Greco was that leader. Yes you could always seek guidance in his “NY Yankee” office but more importantly you felt his support as he walked through our halls greeting teachers, students and staff as equals. He really was the perfect principal. And I will be forever thankful that I had the privilege to work with him for so many years. Rest in Peace

David Greco was my principal at both Traditional & Hutch-Tech.  He was with out a doubt the finest educator I have ever worked with.  Mr. Greco was kind, courteous & demanding of his teachers.  You always had access to his office and he resolved “How can we fix this?”.
when a problem arose.  I wrote a recommendation for Mr. Greco as he was planning his retirement.  He said “ this is more than I expected & more than I deserve”.  Dave, you were much more than I expected and certainly much more than I deserved.
