Thomas C. Richard was born May 29, 1931 in Kaufman County outside of Kemp, Texas to parents Gilbert R. Richard and Robbie L. “Verna” Hice Richard and entered eternal rest on April 24, 2021 at the age of 89.
T. C. attended school in the Tolosa Community before his family moved to Kemp, TX where he loved playing football and worked at the local drug store. He graduated from Kemp High School in 1948. He met the love of his life while in high school, Ann Williams, but did not start dating until after they had graduated. They both were at a local rodeo, started talking and the rest is history. They married in June of 1950. He and Ann were inseparable from that day on, except for the two years that T. C. proudly served in the United States Army with a tour in Korea. After being discharged, T. C. had a few jobs before starting to work for Lone Star Gas Company in Dallas, TX where he worked for over 30 years. After he and Ann both retired in 1986, they moved back to the land where Ann had grown up on outside of Kemp, built a new home and enjoyed their retirement years together.
T. C. and Ann loved to travel and family vacations each year were always fun no matter where they went. They especially loved to go to Branson, Missouri after retiring and went there often with good friends.
T. C. loved Ann and his girls. He would always laugh and say he woke up with 3 strikes against him (all the girls) and always tried to make sure that we had a male dog so he wasn’t the only “guy” in his family. A very bright spot in their retirement years came in February of 1998 when their granddaughter, Alexa, became part of the family after a long journey from China with her new Mom, Vickie and Aunt Debra. T. C. and Ann loved it when she would spend time with them. Alexa especially loved walking the dog with her Grandpa each morning when he was taking his walk, and T. C. loved every minute that he got to spend with her too.
T. C. and Ann loved attending the Church of Christ in Kemp after they retired and were very faithful in their attendance for 25+ years until their health issues kept them from being able to attend. Holidays and family get-togethers were always special to T. C. and Christmas was always his favorite. He liked to open all of his presents very slowly and was always the last one to finish opening all of them. T. C. was a wonderful man who will be missed tremendously by all who knew and loved him.
T. C. was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Ann; his parents, Gilbert and Verna Richard; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Frieda Richard; sister, Shirley Ann Richard Landrum; brother, Jerrell Wayne Richard; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pete and Velma “Sissie” Fowler.
He is survived by his daughter Vickie Boggs of Rowlett; daughter Debra Hadaway and husband Tony of Kemp; granddaughter Alexa Boggs of Garland; brother-in-law John R. Landrum of Kemp; numerous beloved nieces, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, other extended family and many friends.
