Frank McClay Atherton was born January 5, 1925 to Thomas Otis Atherton and Della Mae (Jenkins) Atherton in Kemp, Texas. His father, Otis was a grocery store employee, and his mother Della, a home maker. She thought Frank could do no wrong. Frank was educated in the Kemp Schools and was graduated from the Kemp High School. Immediately following graduation, Frank joined the U.S. Navy at age 17. For the next 2 years, he was involved in the Pacific efforts of World War II where he and his fellow sailors serviced air planes as the Japanese bombs exploded around them. When the war was over Frank came back to Kemp to live with his parents. He purchased a new navy blue Mercury and soon afterward he met Betty Hutcheson and the two were married and to this union one son was born. I had a name picked out for our son, but he wanted to name him, Franky Lynn after him, so that is what it is today. Frank worked for Sherwin Williams, Glidden Paint, and Pittsburgh Paint. He was top sales man for Pittsburgh Paint and in demand.
Frank was a gentle, quiet man, always wanting peace at all cost. He loved God, family, his country and friends very much.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Betty of Kemp, and his son Lynn Atherton of Dallas.
