After 99 years on this earth, Frances Louise Stevens Tarpley of Kaufman, Texas passed away on July 1, 2018 in her home with her loving caregivers by her side. Frances was born in the community of Becker, Texas on April 13, 1919 to Izora and William J. Stevens. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Roland Tarpley, and by her siblings, William J. Stevens, Doris R. Stephens, and Doyle H. Stevens. She is survived my many nieces and nephews and their spouses whom she loved and who loved her. Frances grew up in the Becker community and graduated from Kemp High School in 1938. She married Roland Tarpley on August 14, 1943 at the Becker Methodist parsonage while Roland was serving in the army. Frances was a devoted housewife and an excellent cook. She always had her famous pound cake ready whenever a visitor called. She was a life-long, active member of Becker United Methodist Church. Frances invested her life’s energy into Becker United Methodist Church, the Becker Community Center, and the Lone Oak Cemetery where she served tirelessly and selflessly in many capacities. She was very proud of her heritage, family, and community. She took on the unofficial role of family, church, and community historian as she compiled many photographs and articles and recorded genealogical facts. Some of her work can be found at the Kaufman Public Library in a compilation titled, “Memories of Becker United Methodist Church”. Frances touched and served many lives and will be greatly missed.
