Clifton graduated from Kemp High School in 1955. He married his sweetheart, Jimmie Lou Thomas on June 15, 1956. In 1959 Clifton went to work for Texas Wholesale Grocery which later merged to be Sysco Food System where he retired as Vice President of Purchasing in 1998. Clifton started serving on the Tolosa Water Board in 1970 and helped form it into West Cedar Creek Municipal Utility District in 1975 where he continued to serve until 2018. He served on the Kemp ISD School Board for 24 years. Clifton also served as President of three Cemetery Boards in the Kemp area; Baker, Ware and Shiloh. Clifton was a life-long member of Kemp Church of Christ. He was a humble man with a big heart and a large family and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Clifton was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jimmie Lou (Thomas) Smith, Siblings; T. B. Mills, Dillard Smith, Mildred Reed, William Smith, Eva Harris, Velma McDougald, Sammie Maxwell and Carolyn Bynum, grandsons; Jeremy Doss and Sam Smith.
He is survived by; daughter Deborah Doss Tinsley and husband Bob of Kemp, son David Smith and wife Robin of Kemp, daughter Regina Kiser and husband John of Kaufman, daughter Carla Smith of Kemp, grandchildren; Daisy Cromer, Courtney Kelley and spouse Clint, Kelly Knowles and spouse Brad, Melissa Smith, John David Smith, Katy Kiser, great-grandchildren; Halen Cromer, Lane Doss, Huston Cromer, Caroline Kelley, Keller Knowles, Charlie Kelley, Mason Dickerson, sister Anna Bolton and spouse Roy of Lewisburg, Tennessee, sisters-in-law; Mary Beth Jones and Mary Sue Cowan, brothers in law; Jesse Harris, Eugene McDougald, Billy Thomas, Wayne Maxwell and wife Pat, numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family members and many more friends.
