Charles Edwin King was born on February 10, 1938 in Mt. Vernon, Texas to parents Dennis and Marie (Wardrup) King and went to spend eternity with his Lord and Savior on January 7, 2021 at the age of 82. To his family and friends he was also known as Dad, Pop, Uncle Charles, Charlie or jokingly James. He was an honest man of integrity, a mighty man of God, strong willed, and as you all know, on occasion, hard headed. Music was his passion. He loved singing, playing the piano, leading the choir and preparing for the next worship service. He spent many hours doing yard work. He would work in his garden and mow his yard or pasture almost every day. His hobbies included all church activities, playing board games and eating popcorn with his children and grandchildren. All the grandchildren and great grandchildren got rides on the lawnmower whenever they asked. He loved to vacation in Branson, going to the music shows, eating ice cream, riding go carts, playing putt-putt golf and video games. He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1956 and married the love of his life Patricia Huckaby in Dallas on September 29, 1962. Charles worked at Stewart Systems for over 30 years before retiring as President of Sales, and was also Fire Chief for the City of Tool. During his almost 50 years of music ministry, Charles served at Providence Baptist Church in Tool, Legendary Baptist Church in Gun Barrel City and the last 13 years at First Baptist of Kemp. He also served as deacon, youth sponsor, choir director and on numerous committees. He was currently a member and Music Minister of First Baptist Kemp.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis and Marie King; his sister, Maxine Watson and brother-in-law Kenneth Watson; his nephew Dennis Ray Watson; his father-in-law William Huckaby and mother-in-law Faye Huckaby.
