Charles Baker on January 17, 2025, at the age of 91.
Vince is survived by his devoted wife, Verna; his daughter, Marla MacDonald (Lewis); his
grandchildren, Brandon (Jenny), Hayden (Veronika), and Ashton (Caitlyn); and his greatgrandchildren,
Jaxson and Trenton. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Vicki
Stephen. Vince was also a cherished uncle, mentor, and friend to many.
Vince was born on October 31, 1933 in Roblin, Manitoba, grew up in Vancouver, BC, and later
settled in Kelowna, BC. He and Verna shared 58 wonderful years of marriage together, and
built a loving family and a legacy rooted in kindness, hard work, and generosity.
As the 6th member of the Canadian Professional Golf Association (CPGA), Vince turned his
passion for golf into a remarkable career. He proudly served as the Golf Pro at prestigious clubs,
including Point Grey Golf and Country Club, Richmond Country Club, and Marine Drive Golf
Club. In 1999, Vince and Verna moved to Kelowna, where he continued to share his love of the
game by teaching at The Golf Centre.
Beyond his career, Vince was a lifelong athlete who excelled in soccer and hockey, and had an
enduring passion for all sports. He was a walking encyclopedia of sports statistics!
Those who knew Vince will remember his love for the simple joys in life: red wine, the perfect
steak (medium rare of course), playing crib and bridge, cutting the grass, trips to Maui, and
family get-togethers. He also enjoyed watching horse-racing and even became an owner of
many. His tradition of Christmas morning Caesars will continue as a tribute to the memories he
created.
The last decade of his life was slowed by Parkinson's Disease, and the family is forever grateful
for the care and support Vince received from Belmont Belding. Belmont started out as a weekly
care-giver, but quickly became and remains a dear friend.
After 91 incredible years, Vince played his final round and now walks the “golden fairways”
pain-free. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and
friend—a true gentleman whose legacy of love and kindness will endure.
Rest easy, Vince. You are deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
At Vince’s request, no formal service will be held. A celebration of his life will take place at a
later date.
