Stanley was born October 23, 1925 in Stockwell, England. He passed away peacefully on July 21, 2021 at the age of 95 surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Stanley grew up in Basingstoke, England. At 17 years old (1942) he joined the British Royal Navy to serve his country during World War II. After the war ended, Stanley worked for British Railway before moving to the British Steel Company in Wales. It was in Wales where he met the love of his life, Mary Eileen James. Mary and Stanley married on July 15, 1950, and they started their family, 7 children; Bernard, Elizabeth, Michael, Catherine, Richard, Mary, and Francis. Stanley and Mary were blissfully married for 71 years.
The family immigrated to Kelowna, B.C. in May of 1974. Stanley worked as a gardener at the Kelowna General Hospital till the age of 65 when he retired. In retirement Stan and Mary enjoyed their winters in Arizona, Stan also served as a Fourth Degree Knight at St. Teresa’s Catholic Parish in Kelowna. Stan enjoyed sports, he loved fishing with his sons and had a passion for gardening. Despite a busy calendar in retirement, they were still dedicated grandparents and great-grandparents; enjoying their large family they loved so much.
In the past year Stan and Mary were residing at Sun Pointe Care Home in Kelowna next to their home Parish of Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
Stan is survived by and will be greatly missed by his wife of 71 years, Mary. His children: Bernard (Bridgette) Barton, Elizabeth (Paul) Jones, Michael (Barbara) Barton, Catherine (John) Fraser, Richard (Beth) Barton, Mary (Mark) Ferguson, and Francis (Erin) Barton, 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. As well as his only brother Ron Barton still residing in Basingstoke England, and two nephews: Colin (Christine) Barton and Alan (Sheila) Barton.
A Prayer Vigil will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (750 Rutland Road N., Kelowna, BC) on Thursday July 29, 2021 at 7:00pm.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (750 Rutland Road N., Kelowna, BC) on Friday July 30, 2021 at 11:00am, Father Pat Monette presiding.
