Shirley was born in Cranham, England, and later immigrated to Canada, where she met Jan Bekhuys. They later married and built a life together in Kelowna, where she lived for over 50 years.
She was a devoted mother to Tim, Kendall, and Jody, and a beloved grandmother to Brett, Ami, Alison, Kennedy, Jemma, and Hayden.
Shirley was an accomplished golfer and a key member of the B.C. Summer Games golf team. She also served as a director and was the first female vice-president of the Kelowna Golf and Country Club.
Her love for golf extended beyond the fairways, as she volunteered countless hours assisting with tournaments, including the Ogopogo. In her professional life, Shirley worked as an office administrator for the Okanagan Mission Irrigation District for over 20 years, while also running her own bookkeeping business. She was a dedicated member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority.
Shirley’s warmth, humor, and passion for life will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
