It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of a great human being, husband, brother, uncle, & friend; Robert (Bob) Ross, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Lethbridge, Alberta he attended Lethbridge Collegiate High School. He received diplomas in Sales and Marketing courses from three colleges and spent a successful career as a traveling salesman. He worked for Imperial Tobacco and Hiram Walker Distilleries in the domestic and International Duty-free markets; and finally for Batesville Casket Company. He received exemplary performance awards from each company.
Bob was one of those rare employees who put his whole heart into the job. He could be depended on to be efficient, congenial, thorough, and knowledgeable of the product he represented. He treated his customers with respect and they in turn knew they could trust him and relied on his assistance. As a friend, Bob was there to lend a helping hand and share his knowledge and a beer or two.
In high school, Bob joined the Sea Cadets and enjoyed summers in various training camps. Once out in the work force he joined the Army Reserves with the 18th Field Regiment in Lethbridge and the Kings Own Regiment in Calgary from which he retired with the rank of Sergeant. He has been an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26 Kelowna. Notably he led the Remembrance Day Parade many years through the streets to the cenotaph as Sergeant-at-Arms.
For years Bob has enjoyed the hobby of assembling plastic models of trains, tanks, trucks, busses, ships and other military machinery. These were complicated and detailed to perfection.
Bob is predeceased by his parents Fred & Louise Ross of Lethbridge and sister-in-law Kathryn Ross. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Betty and his brother Brian and wife Jean of Oliver, BC.
We wish to thank the wonderful medical practitioners who have looked after Bob such as: Dr. John Dawson, Family Physician; Dr Marianne Taylor, Medical Oncologist; and the many caring Hospitalists and Nursing staff at Kelowna General Hospital and Hospice House.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Central Okanagan Hospice Association or Kelowna General Hospital Foundation Cancer Care.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at First Memorial Funeral Services, 1211 Sutherland Ave in Kelowna, at 11am Friday, July 19, 2024. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.firstmemorialfuneralkelowna.com
