GUNTER, Robert (Bob) Wellington. Robert Wellington Gunter passed away at home on January 20, 2020 at the age of 95. Born April 21st 1924, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. ‘Bob’ as he was known, was the fourth born and most mischievous of 8 brothers and sisters to his parents Eric Gunter & Ruby Cosford.
Bob is survived by his wife of 69 years, Eleanor and loving children Janice Fuller (Steven) & Roy Gunter (Janet); grandchildren Michael Fuller, Jennifer Grundy (Ryan), Shaun Gunter (Jessica), Scott Gunter & Julie Gunter; & great grandchildren Alexandra, Madison & Gracie Fuller, Tatum & Wells Grundy, Jaxon & Sutton Gunter & Aiden.
At the age of 17, Bob joined the Royal Canadian Army Service Corp. He was a proud WWII veteran, serving from 1941-1945. His family will greatly miss the stories about his time overseas. When he returned home from the war, his working days were spent as an Electrical Lineman. He met his wife Eleanor by chance encounter when they both worked for the Winnipeg Electric Co. They married in 1951. His work took him everywhere from Manitoba to California and finally back to British Columbia where he eventually retired. He met many cherished, lifelong friends throughout his career.
He and Eleanor traveled extensively during retirement with multiple trips to explore Australia, Europe and the U.S. He could fix anything and taught his children and grand-children the value of patience and common sense. He was always there for basketball and baseball games, graduations, and birthdays. He was very proud and supportive of his close knit family. He liked to watch Football and definitely looked forward to taking bets (and winning) on big games. He told it how it was and there wasn’t much that changed his mind.
His sense of humour and candor will be greatly missed. There will be no service at this time.
