Dec. 29, 1927 – May 1, 2019
Our wonderful “soldier” husband, father, and grandfather left for his final posting early May 1, 2019. (He was always an early riser so it was fitting!)
He will be missed greatly by his wife of 70 years, Joan; daughters: Lynn (Mike); Gail (Helmut); and Leslie (Ken); grandchildren: Michael (Teresa); ); Gregor (Catherine); Lia (Steve); and Neil; Taeya (Carol); Heather (James), Luke (Laura); Richard’s great-grandchildren: Melissa, Maeghan, Mark, Rachel, Sarah; Christopher, Sylvie, Melina, Stephane, Monique, Danielle; Damond, Jayden, Dale, Cameron, Nicole, Lyle, Clein; Piper, Macy; Bobby, Hudson, Tyler, and Jadyn and Richard’s great-great-grandchildren: Elaina, Kaleb, Taeya, Clara, Olivia, Emmalyn, and Jordan.
Richard was a gypsy at heart and loved travelling. In the military, he had many postings: 3 tours in Germany; 2 tours in Egypt; 1 tour in Cyprus; and the North Pole! In Europe he and his family were always going somewhere! He retired from the military but still kept travelling: Mexico, across Canada, many summers in the “north” of B.C. In 1989, Richard and his wife, Joan, settled in Peachland and he was a supporter and helper within the community and St. Margaret’s Anglican Church. He was a diligent worker at the 50+ Centre and enjoyed his years of carpet bowling.
His favourite pastime over the years was baking and handing out culinary delights, money and Hagendaaz ice cream bars to his grands and greatgrands! Can one ever forget the cream puffs, butter tarts, muffins and cookies?! His title of “Cream Puff King of Peachland” has never been surpassed.
There is not enough room or words to express how much he will be missed by family and friends. Please join us May 25, 2019 at Peachland Baptist Church, 4204 Lake Avenue at 1:00 p.m. Reception will follow at the 50+ Centre after the service.
