KAIP: Richard (Dick) , 79 passed away peacefully on March 27, 2017 in West Kelowna, BC with family by his side. Dick was born on April 6, 1937 in Moose Jaw, SK to parents Joseph and Francis Kaip. He met his wife Gwen at the local arena in Moose Jaw, SK while in high school and began dating in 1957 when he was 21 and she 18. In 1959 they were married and he graduated as a Psychiatric nurse. In 1961 they welcomed to their family their son Bill and a short time later in 1962, their daughter Sharilyn. Dick's career included nursing, social work and public service with the Northwest Territories' Housing Corporation living in Weyburn and Regina, SK; Ottawa, ON; Churchill, MB; Coral Harbour and Baker Lake, NU; Yellowknife and Hay River, NT and eventually retiring to Westbank, BC in 1990. Dick's greatest pleasure was spending time with his family. He also loved going to the casino, fishing, ice cream, football, sudoku and gardening. He took great pride in his garden, both in the north and once retired in BC. He loved to tend to his fruit trees, vegetable plants and flowers and received great joy in watching the quail (Charlie's), pheasants (George's) and hummingbirds visit the yard. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Gwen Kaip, his children Bill (Lisette) Kaip of Yellowknife, NT and Sharilyn (Scott) Alexander of West Kelowna BC, his 5 grandchildren Kirsten (Jason), Tara (Mark) and Reginald of Yellowknife, NT, Jenna (Adam) of Fort Smith, NT and Kevin of West Kelowna, BC as well as his 6 great grandchildren Chayton, Adelyn, Asher, Nyla, Quinn and Lanaya. He will be remembered in the bees and the butterflies. At his request no public service will be held. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Central Okanagan Hospice House, 2035 Ethel Street, Kelowna, BC V1Y 2Z5 .
