Phyllis was the eldest child of Frank and Rhea Schaefer and she was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. In 1943 Phyllis married F/Lt. Harold F. Egan before he shipped out to undertake his duties as a radar operator during WW II. After the war Phyllis had a busy life with Harold, building houses in Toronto, cottages at Pickering Beach and later building a summer cottage for their own family on Gull Lake in Haliburton. Her children were the light of her life, first Julie (Gary) and then Bradley (Lynn). She was blessed to know and spend time will her grandchildren (Wesley, Kevin, Blair and Leslie) and great-grandchildren (Eli and Finn) who will all miss her.
Phyllis is predeceased by Harold, her sister Joyce and brother Frank. She is survived by her niece Gale, also very dear to her.
Phyllis made many friends wherever she lived – in both Ontario and British Columbia. In 1993, Phyllis relocated to Peachland, BC where she enjoyed many years of fellowship at the Peachland Baptist Church. She was an avid crafter – creating paper toile masterpieces was one of her favourite past-times. Many RV trips exploring BC with Julie and Gary were times of fun and laughter that she also enjoyed! On her annual trips back East to visit her son and his family she always brought supplies to make a craft with her grand-children which they all enjoyed!
The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff and doctors at the Dr. Andrew Pavilion in Summerland, BC for their care of Phyllis over the past five years. Also, heartfelt thanks are extended to Laurie who cared for Phyllis like a daughter until she left us.
A private service will be held in Toronto, for the immediate family.
