COATES: Pamela Jane (Bobbi) passed suddenly and peacefully on August 27, 2019 in her home in Kelowna. Survived by her two sons, Matthew (Monica) of Vancouver, and Geoffrey (Angie), also of Vancouver, and her two grandchildren, Emily O’Neill and Noah Coates. Bobbi was born in Westbank, the youngest of 4 children. She is predeceased by her brother Dudley, and sisters Joan and Margaret.
Bobbi attended York House Boarding School in Vancouver, and returned to Kelowna after graduating, where she met Peter Coates. They married in 1959. They moved to California in 1960, where they had their two sons, Matthew and Geoffrey. In 1970 they returned to Kelowna to raise their children and build a thriving business.
For 20 years, Bobbi owned and operated a six store clothing chain known as Bobbi’s. At the time it was the largest privately owned ladies wear chain in the interior of B.C. Bobbi also owned and operated Maggie McFly’s in Orchard Park. In retirement, she traveled the world, from Tunisia to Fiji. For many years, she drove herself to Mexico, to spend the winter among friends in her beloved San Carlos. She had a lifelong passion for bridge, for birdwatching, for art and music.
Bobbi was a burst of energy, and a force of nature. She had a nature zest for life that stayed with her until the end. She is dearly missed by her friends and family.
My candle burns at both ends;
It will not last the night;
But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends -
It gives a lovely Light!
