Maureen leaves to mourn her husband of 48 years, Gary, children Jeremy (Cassandra) and Jordan (Melanie), and precious grandchildren Alexis, Ethan, Natalie and Charlotte. She also leaves her best friend and sister, Marilyn (Wayne); sisters-in-law Diane (Norm) and Lynn; nephews Jason, Justin, Logan, Carter, Miller; nieces Jodi, Madison and Harlen. Maureen was predeceased by father Harold, mother Dorothy, father-in-law Dell, mother-in-law Rose and nephew Jay.
During their 48 years of marriage, Gary and Maureen (affectionally known as “Moe”) loved raising their boys and sharing family experiences with them and their families. They travelled extensively in Europe, Canada and the United States, enjoyed yearly trips with all the family to Mexico and camping trips with their boys and later with their grandchildren and extended family.
Maureen was born in Climax, Saskatchewan on February 14th, 1954 (a Valentine’s baby). She lived with her family in Nakusp, Chilliwack, Rossland then Kelowna and attended Kelowna Secondary School. Over the years Maureen worked at Sears, Mildred’s, Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharmasave. Her last job was at Kelowna Home Hardware developing the gift section into a wonderful experience for shoppers. Her husband managed the store and they loved working together.
Maureen was a very kind, generous, thoughtful and special person. She brightened up any room she entered and made everyone she knew or met feel special. She loved her family immensely, particularly her grandkids. Alexis, her first grandchild, who she called “princess”, had a special spot in her heart; Ethan who loved grandma’s peanut butter and jam sandwiches; Natalie and Charlotte, her two little granddaughters who loved to come to grandma’s house to play store and do her make up. Maureen also always had a spiritual belief in God being her Creator and possessed a very compassionate heart. We all loved her very much and will miss her every day.
The family thanks the wonderful nurses on 3 East at Kelowna General Hospital for their compassion and kindness and a special thanks to Andrew and Julia for their continued thoughtfulness in their care for Maureen during her 6 week hospital stay.
Due to COVID-19, a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that a contribution in Maureen’s name be made to the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Okanagan.
