morning May 1, 2020 at her home in Pine Acres, Westbank, BC.
Born Dec 17 1928, in La Broquerie, MB Alida was 11th of 13 children born to parents Sylva
Joseph and Marie-Anne (Simard) St Laurent. Alida is survived by one remaining brother Fern St
Laurent, sisters in law Patricia, Susan, Mary, Emma, Ester and brothers in law Abe, Ed, Erwin
and Alfred, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Her beloved husband, the late John
Penner passed away April 1, 2006. Alida was forever grateful for their 52 wonderful years of
marriage.
Alida experienced a rewarding and successful career, despite being afflicted with genetic
muscular dystrophy. A woman of many enjoyments, Alida and John loved to travel making
good use of their free time to tour extensively through Europe, the Caribbean Islands and North
America. Alida loved to be surrounded by flowers and gardens. She took great pride in her skills
as a seamstress and was always meticulously dressed. Alida will best be remembered for her
zest for life and positive outlook. Alida lived by the belief that you do what you can with what
you have.
Alida possessed a strong faith evident by her daily reading of bible scriptures and her belief that
she would rejoin her devoted John who promised to reserve for her, a seat by his side.
In keeping with Alida’s wishes her ashes will be interned next to her loving husband at Lake
View Memorial Gardens, Kelowna, BC. When we are able to congregate, a graveside gathering
will be held in the future.
The family would like to thank Dr. Gerhardt Verster and the staff at Pine Acres Home for their
years of kindnesses and loving care they have provided for Alida.
