In loving memory,
Beryl passed peacefully Tuesday morning December 12th at Kelowna General Hospital. We would like to thank the terrific caregivers at KGH, dedicated physicians (Dr.’s Van Der Ross and Koss) and the many staff who gave her excellent care, particularly in her later years.
Beryl was a devoted wife to Ray (passed January 9th 2019), mother to Derek (Angela) and Janet (Geoff) of Kelowna, proud Nana to Julia (Jade), Alexander (Allsion), David, Rosalyn (Nick), Chase and great grandson Jack.
Beryl was born in Liverpool to parents Hector and Hilda Brookes. Beryl moved to Canada in 1957, joining Ray in Alert Bay. They were married in 1958. They lived in Port Hardy for 10 years where they made lifelong friends in Diane and Toni Toth who became Derek and Jan’s Godparents.
From Port Hardy they ventured to Keremeos where they lived for three years to dry out from the Port Hardy rain. In 1971 they moved to Kelowna where they made their forever home.
Beryl had a special talent as a poet writing many a verse for her family and friends. She was also very talented with a paintbrush in hand capturing many of the Okanagan scenes on canvas.
In earlier days, Beryl and Ray enjoyed participating in theatre productions and she loved to play tennis, swim and at every opportunity she loved to sing.
She was very proud of time spent as a dedicated volunteer including starting up and taking the lead for the Kelowna chapter of the Osteoporosis Society of Canada.
In later years Beryl enjoyed her time at Balmoral playing bridge, wizard, darts and attending church. To keep her mind active she enjoyed wordle, jeopardy and crossword puzzles. Beryl will be fondly remembered for her kindness and sense of humour and greatly missed by her family and Balmoral community. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation in loving memory of Beryl.
A celebration of life will be held for Beryl on June 8th from 11:30 – 2:00 at the Balmoral Club house 2365 Stillingfleet Rd in Kelowna. A light lunch and beverages will be served.
Please bring your pictures and memories to share. Please RSVP to Derek at [email protected]
