Lynda was born in Birch Hills, SK on September 17, 1937. She was the only child of Bruce and Naomi Fleming. She died peacefully on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at the Hospice House in Kelowna, after a short battle with CNS Lymphoma. She is survived by her loving husband, Chuck and her children Mary Ellen Kemp (Rob), and Tom Day (Cathy Stretch), and their grandchildren Michaela Kemp (Zachary Fink), Daniel Kemp (Darby Melnyk) and Jenna Kemp (Duncan Mackenzie).
Lynda was the Governor General graduate from Swift Current High School. She attended the University of Saskatchewan graduating with a degree in Nursing. She was awarded the Ellis Prize, an honor given to the graduate with the highest academic standing in her class. In 1954, she was chosen to be Miss Saskatchewan Roughrider, and remained a Rider fan all her life.
During her career she held several positions including a hospital ward nurse, a teacher in the Faculty of Nursing at U of S, and after staying home to raise her family, she continued her career as Registrar and Acting Executive Director of the AARN.
Lynda was generous, loving, strong and always put others first. She enjoyed many activities, including swimming, fishing, music, reading and was a golfer by marriage. She and Chuck travelled extensively. She also had a profound love for animals. She will be fondly remembered for her infectious laughter, sense of humour.
Lynda had a special place in her heart for her family and friends. She took a genuine interest in each of their lives and greatly enjoyed the time she spent with them. Gatherings of family and friends were the happiest times of her life. She was a beautiful person and will be missed by all whose lives she touched.
Her family would like to thank the paramedics, the staff at KGH, Cottonwoods and Hospice House for the loving care she received. As per Lynda’s wishes there will be no funeral service. A celebration of her life with family and close friends will be held in the future.
