Lena was born in Ukraine in 1926, and her family emigrated to Evansburg, Alberta 9 years later. She moved to Vancouver when she was just 18 years of age. To her great fortune, she attended a church convention in Vancouver that same year, where she met a charming man, Matthew Ulansky, who swept her off her feet. As Matthew lived in Vernon at the time, and Lena in Vancouver, they courted long distance for 2 years. Then in January of 1947 they, along with many of their friends, attended a bible school course in Cleveland, Tennessee. It was there that Matthew proposed to Lena, and there that their life together began.
Once back in Canada, they made arrangements for Lena to move to Vernon, to plan their summer wedding. They were married in Vernon on June 15, 1947, a short 69 years ago. It was shortly thereafter, that they started their family, first with their daughter, Jayne, an then their son, Ron. In 1953 Matt, Lena, and their 2 children moved up north to Valleyview, Alberta, where Matt volunteered his time as a layman pastor, while working carpentry jobs to support their family. In 1955, they settled in their final home of Kelowna, going on to complete their family with 5 children, 14 grandchildren, and 16+ great grandchildren.
Arrangements under the direction of First Memorial Funeral Services, Kelowna, BC.
