Joan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose presence in our lives was nothing short of a blessing.
Born and raised on the family farm in Whitelaw, Alberta, Joan always believed in the importance of family. At the age of 17, she met the love of her life, Jim Aitken. The two were married on December 3, 1953, on the farm, beginning a journey together that would span 71 years.
Joan and Jim raised three children, and as their family grew, they followed the promise of new opportunities. The couple moved to Kelowna, where they built their life. After living in Kelowna for many years, they semi-retired in Greenwood in 1982, and then moved to Penticton for full retirement in 1992. The call to return to Kelowna in 2002 was strong, and they made their way back, this time to be even closer to their growing family.
Joan had many passions, including quilting and baking. Above all, her greatest joy came from spending time with those she loved. She was the cornerstone of our family, a constant source of warmth, wisdom, and laughter.
Joan is survived by her loving husband, Jim; daughters Sherry Aitken (Bob), Bonnie Skok (Ron); grandchildren Tara (Mike), Jamie (Steve), Heather (Tom), Cameron (Nicole), Carleen, Chris and Kim; as well as her cherished great-grandchildren: Blake, Cody, Conner, Knox, Cruz, Grayson and Laine. She is predeceased by her parents, Bill and Agnes Wilson and son Blaine (Marilyn).
The family would also like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the incredible staff and nurses at Kelowna General Hospital 4 East. Their compassionate care and unwavering support provided comfort to Joan and her family during her final days. We are deeply grateful for their kindness and dedication.
Joan’s legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will live on through the generations she leaves behind. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
