Jack Newton Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Hospice House, at the age of 88.
Jack is survived by his eight children: Hille (Lora Legitt); Joanne (Richard Edwards); Linda (Brian McCready); Ron (Lin); Anita (Paul Desjardins); Ken; Joyce Manning; and Jack (Ethel); 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; his special friend, June Tulley, and extended family in Holland and Australia.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years – Wilhelmina Regina (Wilma).
Jack will be fondly remembered for his music (especially the mouth-organ), saw and tool grinding (located at the house with the windmills on Rutland Road), and his ability to build and fix almost anything (having full-filled his childhood dream of being a steam-engineer).
After emigrating from Holland where he was a member of the Korps Mariniers, he supported his family with work on the Northern Alberta Railway, Brenda Mine, and Crown Zellerback Paper Plant.
He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion.
The family is extremely grateful to the physicians, nurses, and staff at Kelowna General Hospital and Hospice House for their tremendous care.
Donations will be gratefully accepted for the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 250 Gibbs Road West on Saturday, November 12th starting at 9:30 a.m.
