MARIN, Gloria: (May 9, 1936 - March 29, 2020) went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 29, 2020. Gloria passed away peacefully in her home in Kelowna B.C. She was predeceased by her husband Damiano. Gloria will be deeply missed by her only son: Walter Marin and most recently, Gloria was equally cared for by his love, Tanya Atkinson. Gloria deeply adored her 2 grandsons, Emerson (age 16) and Alexander (age 19), both of which had enjoyed and will treasure the memories of their “Nonna”.
Gloria lived an independent life until her last days. Enjoying every moment with her close family, she loved getting out and meticulously dressing with class including her love of jewelry. Red was always her favorite colour, be it dresses, lipstick or manicures. Fittingly, another passion was caring for her Red Long Stem Roses in her garden.
Gloria was well known in the community for her active involvement at the Kelowna Italian Community Association since moving here in 2000. As well, she enjoyed participating in all the Kelowna Bocce Club tournaments and events. Always outgoing, with a strong passion for exploring, she enjoyed many trips and spending time with her friends. She will be remembered as a giving and caring person as her years spent growing up in a small town in Northern Italy (near Vittorio Veneto, Treviso), developed those wonderful family characteristics.
Moving to Canada and residing in Calgary from 1959 to 2000, where she raised a family and was a dedicated wife until the passing of Damiano in 1998. She is a strong and devoted Roman Catholic and we know she will be blessed to be joining our Lord. This moment is what allows us to feel joyous in that she is in a better place.
Gloria’s family extends throughout the world, most predominantly in Calgary, Alberta, and Ontario (Midland area). Her nieces Miryam and Manuela always touched her heart via phone, and connected with her when visiting BC. Nieces, Leda, Marisa, and Nephew Sergio also stayed in touch with much loved Birthday and Christmas greetings, and she loved the phone calls over the years. We know they supported us by their life long actions and the time honoured Italian tradition of family values.
Mamma, thank you for all you have done while with us, you will always be remembered by all that have known and loved you.
She will be reunited with Damiano in the Mausoleum in the Queen’s Park Cemetery in Calgary, below her mother Augusta DalBo.
At 83 years of age, she was aware of our health crisis of 2020, and though she is not honoured with the traditional final respects of all that wished to gather one last time, she knows that lasting LOVE is greater than the final gathering.
A heartfelt thanks to Dr. Shepard for years of medical support, and most recently the wonderful transition to Dr. Hendriks for his care in her last year. We thank the wonderful caring people at First Memorial Funeral Services for their professional services.
Whenever you see a Red Roses, think of my mom. That will make her happy.
