As a young adult she moved to Ottawa during the Second World War and worked as a private secretary with The Canadian Department of National Defence. After a few years she moved to the United States to work and give valuable assistance to the British Mission in North America.
She returned to Canada and married Frederick Sproule and had two children John and Deena.
Gena continued on with a career as receptionist and office clerk for the faculty of medicine at UBCO Vancouver where she retired.
Gena had a great sense of humour and was a true lady in every sense of the word. One of Gena’s most memorable event was attending a luncheon at the White House.
Gena was predeceased by her parents Bert and Mable Smith, her two brothers Morris and Neville Smith and her daughter Deena Kathleen Sproule.
Gena will be missed by her son John Sproule, her childhood friend Marion Thomas as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Special thanks to the staff at Kelowna General Hospital Emergency department for their kindness and professionalism.
In lieu of flowers Gena has requested a donation to the Salvation Army.
