Egon was born May 18, 1930 in Stuttgart, Germany to his parents, Hilda and Josef Ressel. He immigrated and arrived at the shores of Canada in Halifax, Nova Scotia with the Vulcania on October 21, 1951 at just 21 years old. He had hopes of a new and more prosperous life, which, with endurance and hard work, he achieved.
He worked his way across Canada and settled in Vancouver, where he met his first wife. He is survived by his four children; Sonja (Marty); Deanna (John); Egon; and Takis (Christine); stepchildren in Germany as well as grandchildren.
In 2014, Egon was predeceased by his wife Ursula. She was the love of his life. In 1979 they were married and became immediately inseparable. They loved to sail, and in their later years, they loved to travel in their RV for months at a time and met many interesting people along the way.
Egon was definitely one of a kind. He was a proud man with a good heart. He could do or build anything that he set his mind to. He built a 32’ sailboat, and an electric car as well as had many, many other projects along the way.
He had a quite the knack for telling stories. His sense of humour and entertaining stories will be greatly missed; as will his smile.
Funeral service will be held at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, West Kelowna on April 28th at 1pm. Luncheon to follow.
