On April 16, Ed passed away peacefully aged 97 with his family by his side. Predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years, Patricia (in 2011) and his son Dawson (in 2002). Ed is survived by his sister Kathy, sons Paul, Jon (Nicole); daughter Michelle (Bob); granddaughters Sarah (Chris), Elissa (Brett), Tegan (Steve). Born in England, Ed served in World War II. His unit was captured and he spent the next 4 years as a Japanese prisoner of war in Singapore & Thailand. Upon his return to England, Ed met his wife Patricia and together they raised four children. He worked as a physiotherapist and in 1966 the family emigrated to Canada where Ed was Director of Physiotherapy at the U of A Hospital in Edmonton. In 1981, Ed and Patricia retired to Oyama B.C. where they were very active in the community for the next 30 years. Ed wrote an environmental column for the local paper & was President of the Environmental Club. He taught badminton and was a volunteer reader at the local school for 20 years. In 2000, at age 83, Ed was elected Lake Country Citizen of the Year for his outstanding contributions to the community. In 2005, Ed received the Oyama Legion Honorary Veteran of The Year Award. As a lifelong healthy lifestyle advocate, Ed was still weight training and very active into his 90’s. He was respected and admired by many; his optimism and positive outlook on life will be missed. The family would like to thank the staff at the Reece unit, Village at Smith Creek for their incredible care and support over the last year. We invite all family and friends to an open house to celebrate Ed’s life to be held on Sunday May 4, from 1 to 4 PM at the family home in Oyama, 16090-Greenhow Court.
