sorry  to  hear at machine shop in  Alcan last week that your father Don had  passed away.I remember him  fondly during my apprenticeship across the road at the  Alcan garage during the 80's. Being that  both Linda  and Tom are long time  friends of mine  I now realize though the obituary that two awesome  Kitimat famalies  had joined  together! Grace, my  mother would  have been sad  for Don  and worried  for  you. On behalf  of  my  sister  Karen  and  myself , deepest sympathy, and great  memories left  behind.-

I have known Don, my cousin by marriage, and friend, ever since he arrived in Kitimat with his black early 50's Mercury Metor some 55 years ago. He and his new bride Dorie stayed with my mother and father, Art and Helen Currie and my bother & I until they found accommodation and work. Don was a great story teller and has reminded me often of the many fishing and camping trips that he and Pete Olenick had taken my bother, Glen and I on. We made many weekend trips to Babine Lake and always came back loaded with whatever fish we could not eat over the campfires. During our family's time in Kitimat, Don kept us well stocked with fish from his regular trips down the "chuck". Don's handyman skills were certainly appreciated by my father who grew up as a farm boy but never acquired any farmer skills. 

After Don's retirement from Alcan, I was fortunate to have Don's help at Fred Bloomfield's and my orchard in Peachland. Don, Fred and my father would regularly drive to the orchard for fresh air and exercise. Actually, in addition to that, they helped out in countless jobs that often would not get done on time or properly. Don was my irrigation man and with a Honda Fourtrax motorcyle, he put more kilometers on it than any other Fourtrax that we have ever owned. He even flipped a couple over on himself and walked away unhurt. He spotted leaks, repaired leaks and broken lines, unplugged drippers, dug many a trench, buried many feet of plastic pipe and when anything needed repairing, Don was my man. Always willing, innovative and invaluable.

After my father Art went into Cottonwoods, Don visited with him regularly and kept him up to date on Kitimat and of persons they knew between themselves. My father deeply appreciated his visits.

Thank you Don for the memories and many life experiences, which I will always cherish.
