Graduating in 1955 as class president from Regina Central Collegiate in Regina, SK, he went to the University of Saskatchewan for his undergraduate and medical degrees. He continued his medical studies at McGill University where he met Jan, a nursing student, whom he married in 1964. After a year’s study in Baltimore at Johns Hopkins and Chief Resident in surgery at the Baltimore City Hospital, he moved his family to Revelstoke, where he travelled weekly up to Micah Creek and Golden to support those communities before settling in Kelowna as a general surgeon. Don also served as President of the BC Surgical Society.
Always an avid hockey fan, Don spent his time outside of the operating room in support of the local hockey team, the Kelowna Buckaroos and his wife’s ongoing charitable endeavors. After her passing in 1995, he met Simona, who took him fishing and travelling, laughing and enjoying life. After her passing in 2009, he spent his time with family and friends, listening to the Kelowna Rockets Hockey games and watching his other favorite teams, the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Toronto Blue Jays. He will be missed by those who knew his humor and endless medical school stories.
A special thank you to Dori, who took such good care of dad during the last few years when we could not. He loved sharing this time with you and always looked forward to talking all things hockey.
