February 17, 1925 – August 16, 2013
Barbara found peace in the early hours of Friday August 16. Predeceased by daughters Wendy Anne and Heather, Barbara is lovingly remembered by Howard, her husband of 65 years, by children Sher (John), David (Sandy), grandchildren Emma, Kurtis, Olivia, Grace and Kaleb, and by sister Pam Agassiz of Calgary.
Born and raised in Kelowna, the eldest child of a pioneer family, Barbara was an “Okanagan girl” at heart. She swam beautifully, raced war canoes, was a Lady of the Lake contestant, and over the years canned enough fruit to sustain a village.
Married in 1948 Barbara and Howard started their family in Osoyoos, returning to Kelowna in 1961.
Barbara’s life reflected a tenacious spirit, abiding modesty, and deep love of family. She volunteered generously including to hospital and church auxiliaries and Diabetic Day Care. She enjoyed her bridge and golf foursomes, her ladies’ walking group, and all those trailer trips with old friends. Barbara cherished times spent with each grandchild. She and Howard travelled extensively.
Barbara Grace will be remembered for her endless thoughtfulness to others, best-ever apple pie, and a certain sparkle in her kind blue eyes. Go in peace, beloved.
Howard and family extend heartfelt thanks to the staff and nursing management of MountainView Village, to Dr Joshua, and Reverend Catherine Dafoe-Hall.
Memorial service 2 pm Saturday August 24 at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Okanagan Mission.
