Born to parents, Paddy and Kate Burke, she lived the majority of her life in Kelowna with the exception of a few years when she lived in Edmonton, Alberta.
Her family was the love and centre of her life and she enjoyed their visits at her home on many occasions. Being an avid reader, she was usually found with a book or her e-reader close at hand. She especially loved History and Biographies, and was always eager to share stories or recipes that she had discovered or read. Barb was very compassionate and had a great sense of humour right to the very end. She spent many years as a home care nurse, where she loved to care for her patients and became very close to the families involved.
Sadly survived by one brother Maurice (Audrey) of Williams Lake, BC; three sisters: Muriel of 150 Mile House BC, Eileen (Harold) of Vernon, BC, and Diane (Lou) of Lake Country, BC; and sister-in-law Myrtle of Kelowna, BC. She was Auntie Barb to many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews whom she loved dearly and she cherished their visits when they came to see her. She is also survived by a few cousins and distant relatives.
Predeceased by her parents; two brothers: John and Donald; one sister, Patricia; and two brothers-in-law: Lorne and Harold.
Very special thanks to Doctor Price and Doctor Rolf, and the nurses on 4B West who gave her such exceptional care, especially during her last few days. Their compassion will not be forgotten.
A private family service will take place at a later date.
Those wishing to make donations in Barb’s memory, please make them to a charity of your choice.
