Ernie, a San Francisco Bay Area Native, was born to Ernest Sr, a captain with the Oakland Fire Department, and Mary, an associate with a Bay Area department store of the time. He was the oldest of three siblings. After graduating high school, he joined the Air Force and served during the time of the Korean War, but was stationed in Europe (Germany, France, and Italy). Upon returning from service, he settled into family life, marrying Joy Pauls and having 4 children. He and his wife were married for over twenty years.
Ernie married his second wife, Susan Barrett, in 1980 and have one daughter. He worked for 30 years as a bread delivery truck driver for what would become Orowheat by the time he retired in 1998 at the age of 62. Ernie enjoyed hobbies such as supporting the San Francisco 49ers, and the Oakland A's. He also enjoyed Nascar races with Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr. as his favorite drivers. He had a love of model trains, classic cars, and military planes. He was a cancer survivor, and double amputee. He moved to the Fort Worth area of Texas in 2013.
Ernie is preceded in rest by his mother Mary Philomena, his father Ernest Marks Sr., and his daughter Stephanie. He is survived by his wife of 40 years Susan Alberts, his brother Norman (Karen) Alberts, sister Jacqueline Burns, children Perri Meyer, Keith (Mary) Alberts, Michelle (Allyn) Merrell, Laurel (Jacob) Smith; as well as 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
A liturgy of the word service for Ernie will be held Friday, November 12, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Keller's Old Town Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 220 Keller Parkway, Keller, Texas 76248.
