He was born in Colebrook, NH on August 8, 1935, the son of Lester and Gladys (Martin) Brackett.
He was a 1953 graduate of Colebrook Academy, and received his teaching degree from Keene Teachers College (now Keene State College) in 1957. He went on to receive advance degrees from Brown University and Southern Connecticut State University.
Mr. Brackett had a full and rewarding professional life in math education at the Lewis Mills Regional High School and at the Wamago Regional High School in Connecticut, where he touched many lives.
While living in Bristol, Conn., he was active in the Franklin Mason Lodge, becoming Master, in 1975, the Chippanee Country Club, and as a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.
Upon his retirement, he and his wife, Barbara, moved to Walpole, NH where he was actively involved in the Keene State College Alumni Association, as well as a loyal fan of the Keene State College Softball team. He was very proud of the college and the wonderful school it has become.
Another activity very dear to Bill was as a volunteer at the Kurn Hattin Homes in Westminster, VT. He and Barbara devoted many hours to a place they love.
Bill was a member of the United Church of Bellows Falls, VT, a member of the King Solomon Temple F. & A.M. Lodge #45, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #1619 of Bellows Falls.
In his early retirement, he also enjoyed traveling, his computer, and boating in Florida where he and Barbara spent several months each year and also boating on New Hampshire lakes.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara (Ryans) Brackett of Walpole; sons, Steven Brackett and his wife, Pauline, Bruce Brackett and his wife, Deborah, and Scott Brackett and his wife, Pamela; his beloved grandchildren, Jonathan and his wife, Marilyn, William, Elizabeth, Patrick, Christopher, Timothy; sister-in-law, Pauline Locke; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters; two brothers, his parents; and beloved grandson, Benjamin Brackett.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at 11:00AM in the United Church of Bellows Falls, 8 School Street, Bellows Falls, VT. Family and friends are welcome. A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00PM at the Fletcher Funeral Home, 33 Marlboro Street, Keene, NH.
