Virginia Ringland Young

She was born on February 27, 1927 in Keene, the daughter of Robert and Florence (Bates) Ringland. She attended area schools and graduated from Keene High School.

On December 7, 1950, Virginia married Roger W. Gilbert. They were married for 22 years raising their three children.

Virginia was a very accomplished woman who owned her own real estate company, V.R. Gilbert Realty during the mid to late 60’s and was a real estate broker for over 50 years. In addition, in 1962, she and her husband Roger built, owned, and operated Surry Mountain Campground thru the early 70’s.

On May 30, 1986 Virginia and husband Walter J. Young of Rindge, NH married and together they maintained a very active role in the Shriners through the Bektash Shrine in Concord, NH. Enjoying extensive travels throughout the U.S and Europe during their retirement.

Virginia was a remarkable woman who will be remembered for her Gift of Gab and ability to engage in conversation with anyone who crossed her path. She had a great love for her Gardening. She had remained an active member and past President of the Old Homestead Garden Club for which she held great enthusiasm. She was a member of the Keene Women’s Club, holding title of President in 1968 and 1969. She enjoyed sewing, needle point and partaking in ceramics at the Keene Senior Center.

Virginia will be dearly missed by her children: Robert Gilbert and his wife Karen of Nottingham, NH, and Patricia Wilber and her husband William of Merrimack, NH; grandchildren: Jacqueline Gilbert of Barrington, NH, Stephanie Kirk and her husband Jared of Nottingham, NH, Amy dos Santos and her husband Marco of Auburn, NH, Tania Bourassa and her husband Nathan of Chesterfield, and Sarah Dunton and her husband Justin of Keene; great-grandchildren: George, Hudson, Greyson, Emily, Ethan, Damian, and Mya; as well as numerous extended family members.

She was predeceased by her husband: Walter J. Young; daughter: Jean Carol Wilk, and her four siblings.

Family and friends are invited to a funeral service in celebration of Virginia’s life on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at 10:30 am at Fletcher Funeral Home, 33 Marlboro Street, Keene, NH. Burial will take place at the Ringland family plot at Greenlawn Cemetery off of Greenlawn Street in Keene, NH.
