Susan, daughter of Edwin T. and Vera (Braem) Burnett, was born on October 13, 1946, in White Plains, New York. She was raised in Westchester, NY where she graduated from Valhalla High School. Susan went on to attend the University of CA at Berkley and eventually pursued her master’s degree in education from Western Connecticut State University. Susan shared her deep love of knowledge by pursuing a career as an Earth Science and Computer Science teacher at Brewster Middle School in New York for twenty-five years. She took great pride in her ability to engage her students and ensure they succeeded in their studies.
Susan loved nature and being outdoors. She would often be found creating and maintaining her beautiful gardens, out taking walks, or viewing wildlife from her sunroom overlooking Lake Skatutakee. With her keen attention to detail, Susan was able to transform her nature-inspired visions of flowers and nature scenes into beautiful watercolor paintings that will be passed down to generations to come.
Susan touched the lives of many and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her memory will live on through her two sons, Justin and Tyler Ruttan; her daughter in law, Jessica Ruttan; her two grandchildren, Christopher Ruttan and Samantha McKay; her sisters Bonnie Damia and Nancy Clark; her brother-in-law Peter Damia; and her many nieces, nephews and extended family. Susan was predeceased by her partner of 15 years, Jay Jacobs, on November 18, 2021. May they both rest together in peace.
Services for Susan will be held privately by the family.
For those who wish, donations may be made in her memory to the Dementia Society of America, PO Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901. (https://dementiasociety.charityproud.org/donate)
