Her parents, Marcia F. (Perham) and Linn J. Starkey, Jr. welcomed their daughter into the world on June 12, 1953 in Keene, NH. She grew up in Westmoreland attending local schools, and was a 1971 graduate of Keene High School.
Sally attended the Elliot Community Hospital School of Nursing in Keene. She worked for many years as a medical transcriptionist at the Grace Cottage Hospital in Townsend, Vermont.
Sally enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, knitting and quilting; sitting in her sunroom with her dog, Emmy Lou; and watching Christmas movies. She loved the beach, especially York Beach, and she was known for her "dry sense of humor".
Family brought Sally her greatest joys in life.
She will missed by many, especially her siblings, Diane Castor of Keene, James Starkey and his partner, Christine Braaten, of Westmoreland, John Starkey and his wife, Deborah, of Westmoreland, her nieces and nephews, Tammy Westney and her husband, Shawn, of Rockingham, Michelle Castor of Keene, Peter Starkey of Tillamook, Oregon, Nikole Starkey of Swanzey, NH, Amanda Miller and her husband, Justin, of Swanzey, Derek Starkey of Westmoreland, Keith Phoenix of Puerto Rico, Kyle Godduhn-Braaten of Washington, DC; a sister-in-law, Teresa J. Starkey, of Keene; and many other extended family members and friends. Her husband of 29 years, Andrew M. Payne, died on August 21, 2008. A brother, Jeffrey Starkey, predeceased her in 1999.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 1:00PM in the Westmoreland Village Cemetery, on Glebe Road. All are welcome to attend.
