He was born in Keene, NH along with his twin brother, on March 28, 1946, to Evelyn J. (Warner) and Edward J. Bergeron, Sr., the second of their six children.
A 1964 graduate of Keene High School, Ron won the prestigious Sharby Trophy and was state champion in shot put & discus, propelling him to the New England Meet that year. He studied at East Mississippi Junior College before apprenticing at Bean Construction to become a mason.
He worked for years at the family business, Bergeron Construction Co., prior to starting Bergeron Masonry. Ron was active in the local home builders association eventually serving as president of the Home Builders-Remodelers Association of NH.
In1972, Ron married Debra Dill with whom he had three children. Though divorced, they remained friends throughout his life. A loving father, brother, uncle, and friend to many, Ron lived a simple life enjoying sports, particularly the Swamp Bats, the Red Sox, and the Patriots, a good game of cribbage, baking, and watching westerns, but his greatest joy was a visit from his grandchildren.
With the help of his entire family and his friends, despite a severe disability due to a massive stroke while on a roof repairing a chimney in 2005, he was able to recover enough to live independently in his home until his death. Despite his disabilities, Ron remained a positive and happy man to the end. His philosophy in life was “Growing old is not for Sissies.”
He is survived by his sons, Luke Bergeron and his wife, Sandra, of Lyndonville, VT, and Craig M. Bergeron of Keene, his daughter, Desiree Bergeron, of Fairfax Station, VA; two grandchildren, Ariella and Landon Bergeron; his twin brother, Donald Bergeron; younger brother, Edward J, Bergeron, Jr, and his wife, Mable; sisters, Sally Belluscio and her husband, David, Juliana Bergeron and her husband, Arto Leino, and Wanda Mohr and her husband, Frederick; many nieces, nephews, and true friends.
A celebration of his life will be held Friday, February 26th from 4:00 to 6:00PM in the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mr. Bergeron’s memory to St. Vincent De Paul Society, c/o Parish of the Holy Spirit, 161 Main St., Keene, NH 03431.
