He was born July 11, 1959 in Keene, NH the son of Robert J. and Sandra E. (Malcolm) Smith. He was a 1977 graduate of Monadnock Regional High School. Following graduation he held a few different jobs. He worked in Andorra Forest with his brother Mark for several years. Eventually going into partnership with his brother founding Sullivan Wood Products. Always being skilled with his hands he tried factory work at MPB/Timken but the strong desire to be outside brought him to the Sullivan Road Agent positon. October 20th, 2017 marked 20 years of being Sullivan Town Road Agent.
He was a very compassionate person and was a “man of his word”, always following through with things he said he would do. He was a true outdoorsman, spending much of his time doing small projects around the farm. In keeping the tradition of working the land in the family, he taught his children and grandchildren the value of self-reliance. Taking road trips with his wife was also something he enjoyed: the two of them were visiting all the waterfalls and fire towers in Vermont and New Hapmshire. Randy and his wife loved spending time looking at antique barn auctions, learning about the different cultures and history. Architectural design was one of Randy’s passions. They were building a house, using logs he harvested himself from the farm.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years: Sheila (Woodbury) Smith of Sullivan, his daughter: Angela Smith of Sullivan, his son: Craig Smith and his wife Isabella of Swanzey, three grandchildren: Brady, Dillion, and Wyatt, his parents: Robert and Sandra Smith of Sullivan, his brothers, Mark Smith and his loving companion Michelle of Sullivan, Kevin Smith and his wife Jennifer of Sullivan and Todd Smith and his wife Ning of Sullivan, brother-in-law: Leonard Woodbury of Sullivan, sisters-in-law: Linda Newell and her husband Marty of Newbury, NH and JoAnn Woodbury of Colebrook, NH and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
