Paul L. Davis Sr.

He was born in Keene August 16, 1938. He was the son of the late George L. and Doris (Payne) Davis. On July 1, 1958, he married the love of his life, Carole Washburn Davis, in a ceremony at the Grace United Methodist Church of Keene. They were married 63 years. Paul grew up in Roxbury, NH on the Davis Family Farm. He was a heavy equipment operator for many construction companies: Payne Construction Company, A.J. Orlando Construction Company, Bridge Construction Company (Maine) and Pizzagalli Construction Company (VT). He also worked at the Knight Farm in Keene.

Paul enjoyed attending Nascar and Skimobile races in his younger years and watched all the Nascar races on TV. He was an avid Patriot Football and Red Sox fan. He enjoyed the games the most when his grandsons watched them with him. He made the best peanut butter fudge and never used a recipe. He did not garden much himself but enjoyed watching and raiding Joe S’, Jim’s and Bob’s garden. He used to pull pranks on his fellow construction workers by leaving a rubber snake in odd places. He had many dogs over the years. His dog Pahlo passed December 2022. A few of his friends who he worked with kept in touch with him. One devoted, kind and caring friend is Bob Knight.

Paul served in the Air Force and completed a tour of duty in Korea in 1956.

Paul leaves behind his children: Kathy Nikiforakis and her husband, Paul, of Swanzey; Susan Marien and her husband, Nick of Summerfield, NC; Renny Davis and his wife, Christy, of Winchester; and Lt, Col. James B. Davis and his wife, Margret, of Roxbury; Joe Sabolevski and his wife, Sherrie, of Roxbury, who were like a son and daughter to him. His grandchildren: Peter (Lori), Jim (Melissa), John (Heather), Steve and Joe Nikiforakis; Dominick Marien; Greg and Scott Davis; Claire Davis and Christian Alfs; his great-grandchildren: Logan and Liam Nikiforakis, Kendyl and Jaxon Davis, Evelyn and Norah Nikiforakis, Vivian and Eva Davis and Frieda Alfs.

His only surviving brother is Richard Davis. He is predeceased by his siblings: Jacqueline Reed, Carolyn Buffum, Charles Davis, Phillip Davis, Bruce Davis, and Robert Davis.

A military graveside service will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023 at 11:00 am at Mountain View Cemetery, Old Homestead Highway, Swanzey, NH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Paul and Carole’s love of dogs are requested to be made to the Monadnock Humane Society, 101 West Swanzey Road, Swanzey NH 03446 (www.MonadnockHumaneSociety.org).
