The caring hands too many, be it two-legged or four, will be greatly missed with the passing of Patricia J. Seymour 87, of North Swanzey, NH, on April 8, 2024, at the Cheshire Medical Center, Keene, NH, following a brief illness.
Her parents, Richard A. and Pearl (Caron) Horton, welcomed their daughter into the world on January 21, 1937, in Gilsum, NH. A lifelong resident of the area, Pat attended local schools, and was a 1955 graduate of Keene High School.
No matter where you turned, Pat was always front and center to help others. Early in the 1970’s, Pat was one of seven health aids in the Keene Visiting Nurse Association. As quoted in an edition of the Monadnock Living on January 7, 1975, Pat reflected "I’ve been a nurse’s aide, worked nights in a nursing home, taken care of children, been a crossing guard….you name it, I’ve done it", and that she did.
Pat and her husband, Carroll, raised ten children, eight of which were their own. They opened their doors to foster children, bringing two additional children into their home, growing to a total of twelve, calling them all their own. Not only did she foster children in her home, Pat operated Happy Day Play School out of her home, caring for many children over the years.
The fanciness of the world were not important to Pat, however, her faith was. A devout catholic, Pat found great solace in her beliefs, and carried this acknowledgement throughout her life. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Bernard Church in Keene, and was the church’s first women Eucharistic Minister.
Pat spread her wings, having a love for our four-legged friends, she continued to develop her entrepreneurship, opening "Classie Clip" in 1978, a pet grooming business that she truly loved and continued working at until her death.
No matter what Pat set her mind to do, she was a caregiver with a huge heart, true and true!
She will be greatly missed by many, including her four-legged friends, but especially by her seven children, Daniel Seymour of Keene, Scott Seymour and his wife, Polly (Stromgren) Seymour of North Swanzey, NH, Tonnya Norwood and her husband, Franklin, of Manchester, ME, Todd Seymour and his wife, Iva, of Fitzwilliam, NH, Heather Roy and her husband, Ron, of Claremont, NH, Jennifer Parenteau and her husband, Gary, of Marlborough NH, Kristen Castronova and her husband, Mark, of Hobbs, NM; seventeen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Pawelczyk and her husband, Anthony, of Keene; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. Her husband of 39 years, Carroll J. Seymour died December 4, 1994. A son, Shawn Seymour and a brother, Rodney Horton, predeceased her.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 22, 2024, at 10:30am in the St. Bernard Church, 185 Main Street, Keene. Burial with committal prayers will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Lower Main Street, Keene. There are no public callings hours.
In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations may be made in Mrs. Seymour’s memory to St. Vincent de Paul, c/o Parish of the Holy Spirit, 161 Main Street, Keene, NH 03431.
