Mark E. O’Brien, 61, a resident of Westmoreland, New Hampshire, and former resident of Keene, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 28, 2013, at the Maplewood Nursing Home, in Westmoreland, New Hampshire, following a strong and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.
Mark was born May 22, 1951, in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Edward J. and Jane (Huntington) O’Brien. He was a 1969 graduate of Keene High School and went on the graduate from Franklin-Pierce University with a degree in Communications. On August 11, 1984, he married the love of his life, Christina Hall. For nearly 30 years Mark had worked at Hanniford in Keene.
Mark was a very outgoing person who loved to be with others, especially his family. He especially loved the Holidays, which were full of the traditions and wonderful foods he loved so much. He also loved being outside: whether he was working in his vegetable garden, skiing, biking, going for a walk on Hampton Beach, or simply soaking up the sun. He proudly studied in the arts of Tae Kwon Do, and had achieved the Black Belt. He had a warm and caring spirit which infused everyone that he met. He had many special talents, one of which was his ability to match the proper wine with a meal. This was something he enjoyed and a truly special gift.
He is survived by his wife: Christina O’Brien of Keene, NH, two sons: Travis H. O’Brien and Keegan M. O’Brien, both of Keene, NH, his parents: Edward J and Jane O’Brien of Keene, NH, two brothers: Nathan O’Brien and his wife Lesley of Chesterfield, NH and Matthew O’Brien and his wife Gail of Keene, NH, a sister: Lauren Berube and her husband Robert of Lewiston, Maine, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene, New Hampshire, on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at 10:00am. Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, February 1, 2013 from 5 to 7pm. Burial will be held in the Spring and will be Private.
