She was born September 18, 1940, in Keene, New Hampshire, the daughter of Paul E and Glenna (Grendall) Sweeney. Marilyn grew up in Keene and attended local schools. On December 7, 1968 she married the love of her life, Leonard L. Stoddard.
Marilyn loved to be out in her community and especially loved the time which she spent working at the Red Roof Restaurant in North Swanzey, NH and later at the Lamplighter Steakhouse in Brattleboro, VT. Later on she went to work at Stow Mills, which is now United Natural Foods.
Marilyn was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who cared deeply for her family and who spent much of her time making sure that all her family’s needs were well taken care of. She loved Holiday celebrations and would always make a batch of her wonderful Peanut Butter Fudge. She was also an avid animal lover and especially loved her two dogs Mitzie and Rosie. Marilyn loved to be on the go, whether going shopping at JC Penney, spending a weekend at Foxwoods, or simply enjoying an afternoon in the sun with her family and friends: she truly had a “Heart of Gold” and was a joy to be with.
She is survived by her husband: Leonard L. Stoddard of West Chesterfield, NH, her son: William “Butch” Stoddard and his wife Dayna of Troy, NH, two daughters: Pamela Wallis of Westmoreland, NH and Karen Bills of Bellows Falls, VT., eight grandchildren: Daniel Stoddard, Shayna Stoddard, Ryan Stoddard, Brandon Stoddard, Drew Wallis, Craig Wallis, Eric Stoddard and Nina Bills, two sisters: Patricia Brown of Keene, NH, and Carol Winchester of Keene, NH, her brother: Dennis Sweeney of Tucson, AZ, three nieces: Kimberly Wilton, Tawnya Winchester and Wendy Sweeney, her nephew: Paul Sweeney, and several other nieces, nephews and extended family members. She is predeceased by her brother: Roger Sweeney.
Services will be held in the Spring and will be announced at a later time.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Monadnock Humane Society, 101 West Swanzey Road, Swanzey, NH., 03446.
