She was born in Greenbush, ME on October 6, 1927, to Edgar L. and Marion (Smart) Madden. She was the eldest daughter of 13 children.
She and the family moved to Keene when she was 15 years old, where Marilyn met the love of her life, Wesley "Timer" Castor. When he left to serve in the Navy during WWII, he gave Marilyn a heart locket with the promise to marry. They were married September 18, 1948.
Marilyn had several successful careers which included Prudential Insurance, Monadnock Beauty Supply, Monadnock Regional High School and Keene Co-Op/ First Northern Bank, where she worked her way up to Assistant Vice President of the mortgage department. But Marilyn’s self-proclaimed pride and joy was being a Mom and Grandmother. She remarkably created a seamless flow between career and family life, making sure that her work obligations never detracted from her family life. She was home when her children were home, attended their important school events, made doctor appointments, and greeted them with a hug and kiss when they came through the door.
Marilyn always carried herself with dignity and grace. She had an undeniable inner strength, and was a rock to her family and friends. She helped raise her brothers and sisters; raised 3 children; and was always there for her 8 grandchildren. She was adored by those around her, from her siblings, her many nephews and nieces, her life-long friends, to the coworkers she mentored over the years.
She is survived by her daughters, Ann Clark and her husband, Howard, Susan Hood and her husband, David; her grandchildren Amy Kavalauskas (James), Howard Clark III (Kayleigh), Douglas Graves (Amie), Weston Graves (Amber), Laurel Hood, Brandon Hood, Kaysie Castor, Kelsie Castor Foster; 5 great-grandchildren; her partner of 19 years, Herb Lambert; her brothers, John Madden, Dennis Madden , Lyle Madden, Owen Madden; her sisters, Joyce Doody, Glenda Henderson, Janice Parker, Judy Avery; along with many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Wesley “Timer” Castor; a son Joseph Castor; and four brothers Amos Madden, Ed Madden, Milan Madden and Kermit Madden.
A memorial service will be held in the summer at a date and time to be announced.
In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made in her name to The Community Kitchen, 37 Mechanic Street, PO Box 1315, Keene NH. 03431.
