She was born on December 4, 1932, in Marlow, NH, daughter of the late Edna (Strickland) and Clarence Mosher. She attended area schools and graduated from Vilas High School.
On August 13, 1951, in a ceremony in Keene, she married her high school sweetheart, John J. Monty. Together they created a beautiful and loving life, raised five wonderful children and shared a beautiful companionship until his passing in May of 2012.
Marie's greatest passion was caring for those she loved. She dedicated herself to her family and home unwaveringly. Growing up in the Monty household, you could always rely on Marie to be there waiting patiently for you to arrive home safely and wanting to hear about your adventures. Some of her family’s fondest times together is the many holidays spent at their loving home. To have her entire family together is what filled her and her late husband with much happiness. Marie also shared her love of food with anyone who stopped by her home and always made sure you left with a full tummy. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren vividly recall sharing many yummy meals along with some stories, with their Nan. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, knitting, and crocheting.
Marie will be dearly missed by her five loving children: Candace Elliott and her husband James of Stoddard, Kevin Monty and his wife Kim of Stoddard, Melinda Lake of Stoddard, Jill Wharton and her husband Robert of Richmond and Mary Elliott of Keene; 13 grandchildren: Samantha Brewer, Gary Weaver Jr., Jami Elliott, Nathan Elliott, Selena Wilder, Joseph Lake, Tabitha Kilchewski, Cassie Michaud, Morgan Monty, Robert Wharton IV, Brandon Wharton, Nicole Derosia, and David Elliott III; 29 great-grandchildren: 10 great-great-grandchildren; as well as many extended family members and friends.
In addition to her husband of over 60 years and her parents, she was predeceased by her son-in-law Donald Lake and sister Marguerite and her husband Robert Rhoades.
In keeping with Marie's wishes, family will hold a private burial for her and her husband John at Monadnock View Cemetery, Keene, NH.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to be made in Marie A. Monty's name to Home Healthcare, Hospice and Community Services (www.hcsservices.org), PO Box 564, 312 Marlboro Street, Keene, NH 03431.
