Margaret was born in Troy, NH, on July 7, 1933, daughter of the late Wilpas and Ina (Raitto) Saari. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at the Troy Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Church. She attended area schools and graduated from Troy High School.
On December 27, 1952, at the age of 19, Margaret married the love of her life, Vernon R. Letourneau. The two traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad including Germany, the Azores, and the Philippines during Vernon’s career in the Air Force. They built a beautiful life together including building their family, their most precious accomplishments, sons Gary and Craig. Following Vernon’s service retirement, they settled in Chelmsford, MA, where they resided for 50 years. She was a long-time member of Lutheran Church of the Savior in Bedford, MA. Margaret returned to Swanzey and Keene, NH in her later years following her husband’s passing.
Margaret devoted her life to her family and her faith. She took pride in caring for her home and providing support to her sons and husband. While her children faced many physical challenges, Margaret nurtured them, encouraging them to be independent with much success. She completed clerical work for local businesses and volunteered her time graciously to the Central Food Ministry in Lowell, MA, and the Veteran’s Hospital in Bedford, MA. She enjoyed gardening and playing golf. Margaret will forever be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and engagement with others.
Margaret will be dearly missed by her siblings: Nancy Saari of Keene, NH, and Edward Saari of Troy, NH; grandson Jordan Letourneau of England; as well as several extended family members and many friends.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Vernon, and sons Gary S. Letourneau and Craig A. Letourneau, and sister-in law Geri A. Saari.
A funeral service will be held at the Christ Lutheran Church, 4 Fitzwilliam Road, Troy, NH on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 11:00 am. Burial at Mt. View Cemetery in Troy will take place in the spring.
