

He was born in Framingham, MA on March 13, 1918, the son of David Benjamin and Nina Cudworth Oliver. He grew up in Millis, MA.
From 1938 to 1945, during WWII, he served in the U.S. Navy, with much of his service in the Pacific. He achieved the rank of Shipfitter, First Class. He graduated from Fitchburg State Teacher’s College and continued his education at Boston University where he received his Master’s of Education. He taught Industrial Arts for nearly 30 years at the Weston, Lincoln-Sudbury, and Framingham schools in Massachusetts.
On April 26, 1947 he married Elaine Claire Tuthill. They raised their four children in Wellesley Hills, MA. Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to a home in Pocasset on Cape Cod, MA, where he was able to enjoy long swims in the ocean well into his 90’s. Together on the Cape, he and his wife were parishioners at the North Falmouth Congregational Church.
A gentle and private man, he valued living a private life. His sense of humor entertained those who knew him well. He cherished the family that he raised. He loved devoting time to gardening, swimming, renovating homes, teaching, and making things with his hands. He also enjoyed sailing, fishing and swimming with his good friend, Ted Miller. He is a man that is loved and dearly remembered by his family, friends, and neighbors.
He and his wife enjoyed their large family of 4 children, 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years, Elaine Tuthill Oliver, 3 brothers, and 5 sisters.
A service will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery at Otis ANG Base in Bourne, MA on Monday, June 13th, 2016 at 2 pm.
