He was born on March 15, 1931 in Hinsdale, NH to Alonzo Floyd and Marjorie (Aldrich) Hudson. After graduating from Walpole High School he worked for and attended classes at the University of New Hampshire School of Agriculture. Later, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. After leaving the service in 1954, he began his career with Sikorsky Aircraft, working first in the factory, later as a crew chief and finally as a technical analyst. He retired from Sikorsky in 1994.
He married Marjorie J. Marino on July 28, 1956 in Stratford, CT where the couple later lived and raised a family. After retiring, Maitland and Marjorie resettled in Westmoreland, the town in which Maitland had spent his childhood. Before Marjorie’s death in 2008, the couple traveled, visited with friends and family, and attended CALL classes at Keene State University. Maitland also served as a Deacon at the United Church of Christ in Keene and was a member of The Park Hill Meeting House Society in Westmoreland.
Throughout his life, Maitland maintained an abiding love of the outdoors. After returning to Westmoreland and reconnecting with the land of his childhood, he spent long hours tending to the woods and fields around his home. In summer he raised a vegetable garden and picked blueberries and raspberries on the property. In winter, he maintained several bird feeders and delighted in the appearance of winter flocks.
He is survived by his children: Heather Venaglia and her husband Michael of Midlothian, VA, Jon Hudson and his wife Lisa of Avon, CT and Marc Hudson of Westmoreland, NH as well as four grandchildren: Sara Venaglia of Midlothian, VA, Becca Hudson of Atlanta, GA, Carolyn Hudson of Avon, CT and John Venaglia of Midlothian, VA.
Burial will take place during a private ceremony at a later date.
