She was born in Keene, NH, September 1, 1936, the daughter of Marion O. (Davis) and Rupert L. Willson. She grew up in Keene, attending local schools and was a 1954 graduate of Keene High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society.
Immediately following graduation, at the recommendation of her accounting teacher, she went to work for the City of Keene in the Comptroller’s Office, serving in that capacity for six years. She then transferred to the Keene Police Department, serving as a special officer, dispatcher, and performed various clerical duties, including learning to transcribe fingerprints.
After many years with the police department, Mrs. Gorges took a position with the Keene District Court as Deputy Clerk. In 1984, when the District Court was put under the direction of the Administrative Office of the Courts for the State of NH, she was duly appointed Clerk of the Courts, at the recommendation of Justice James S. Davis and Associate Justice Richard J. Talbot. She remained in this position until her retirement.
In 1959, she married Ronald E. Gorges, who was a builder, and built their home in Marlow where they have resided for over 50 years.
As a resident of Marlow, Mrs. Gorges was very active within her community, serving in many capacities within the town’s government including, as Town Treasurer, Election Official, Trustee of the Trust Funds, Town Auditor, and member of the School Board for 6 years. She was also a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Marlow. She also served as secretary for the Cheshire Fair in the late 60’s for many years.
Mrs. Gorges was a great cook, and loved to listen to country music, and enjoyed dancing. She was an avid floral and vegetable gardener and canned many of the vegetables grown in her gardens. She especially enjoyed her trips to Maine.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Ronald E. Gorges of Marlow; two sons, Daryl Gorges of Parks, Arizona and Conway Gorges of Alstead, NH; her siblings, Carroll Willson and his wife, Elaine, of Surry, NH, Nancy Croteau and her husband, Roger, of Keene, Shirley Wilkes of Westmoreland, NH, Sandra Cunningham and her husband, Bob, of Keene; her sisters-in-law, Jean Lake and her husband, Jim, of Keene, Mary Jane Burns of New London, NH; brother-in-law, Dick Gorges and his friend, Shirley Lambert, of Ft. Wayne, IN; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her beloved golden retriever, Molly.
A funeral service will be held Monday, April 28, 2014 at 11:00AM in the Marlow United Methodist Church, 11 Church Street, Marlow. Burial will follow in the Village Cemetery, Church Street, Marlow. There are no public calling hours.
