He was born in Brooklyn, New York, July 23, 1931, the son of John and Eleanor Lynch.
He grew up in Brooklyn, graduating from Brooklyn Technical High School. He later attended Brooklyn College and New York University, and earned a Master of Education from Fordham University.
Mr. Lynch was an Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.
Residing in Queens, NY for many years, Mr. Lynch worked for over thirty years in the New York City Public Schools, first as a teacher and later as principal with Public School 380.
In 1992, he and his wife, Dolores, moved to Watertown, Connecticut. The desire to be closer to family brought the couple to Peterborough, NH where they resided for ten years before moving to Keene two years ago.
Mr. Lynch enjoyed many outdoor pursuits. For many years he enjoyed sailing and canoeing and was a Red Cross sailing instructor. He also enjoyed hiking and was a member of the Adirondack Mountain Club. He was a member of the Watertown Garden Club. A lifelong golfer, he was a member of the Peterborough Country Club. Mr. Lynch was an avid photographer.
Mr. Lynch was active in the Flatbush Unitarian Universalist Church in Brooklyn, NY and continued to attend other Unitarian Universalist churches throughout his life
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dolores A. (Mikolaski) Lynch of Keene; daughter, Christine L. Parshall and her husband, Lucius, of Keene; son, John Lynch of Albany, NY; two grandchildren, William Parshall and Elizabeth Parshall; sister, Evelyn McTiernan of Tuxedo, NY; brother-in-law, Richard Mikolaski of White Mills, PA; five nephews and three nieces. He was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Finnegan and Margaret McTiernan.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 2:00PM in the Keene Unitarian Universalist Church, 69 Washington Street, Keene. Burial will be private. There are no public calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mr. Lynch’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association Mass. and New Hampshire Chapter, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
The Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene is assisting the family with the arrangements.
